HA3 Task 5 - Regulation

Advertising Standards Authority (ASA)The Advertising Standards Authority was created in 1961 and has since been protecting consumers and promoting responsible advertisements. It is the UK's biggest independent regulator across all aspects of media. Their work consists of working with complaints about media, and to then take action against misleading, offensive and or harmful advertisements or other type of media. The ASA works both independently of the government and the industry. It is also funded by advertisement which guarantees their independence and they receive no money whatsoever from the tax payer.




Ofcom
Ofcom is an independent regulator for broadcasting TV, radio telecoms, mobiles and postal services. Its aim is to protect those under 18 and making sure company's follow specific rules. Music videos can be a common factor such as the lyrics being offensive, or the actual video being offensive. Songs are mainly played on the radio, which day time listeners do not explicit language for that time of day, or even during an interview. If this case happens then Ofcom get on top of it and make the company give an immediate apology. Their aim is to give everyone in the UK the best from the public and private services and that they are protected from scams.
